One of our go-to reference books...It's literally a "Field Guide" to Interior Design. Lauren Liess, an interior designer and founder of the popular blog Pure Style Home, fuses her love of design and the great outdoors into all her work. Lauren invites readers to bring nature inside by mixing the textures of natural elements such as wood and stone with eclectic groupings of modern and quirky vintage pieces. The book is divided into three sections: Part I focuses on the fundamental elements of design, with each chapter devoted to a particular element, such as color, lighting, and furniture; Part II addresses the intangibles of designing a space, such as aesthetics and creating a mood; and Part III tackles unique room-specific challenges in every part of the house.
For more than 30 years, we’ve described our business as a residential design firm. These days we're also Shopkeepers, in both our brick and mortar store and online.
Early in 2013, we moved from Fort Worth so we could live on our farms and work in the area we now call home. We set up our office in the historic Wooden Indian Building at 118 N. Pecan Street in Hico, Texas.
The old building was much larger than we needed for an office, so we opened a small retail store on the first floor. Initially we sold handcrafted farmhouse tables and a few accessories. We soon realized that most of our customers were travelers, so we began offering items they could take home as a reminder of their trip, including T-shirts, candles, books, toys and jewelry.
And today, the store brings clients to the design business. Folks come in to shop, wander back to Cindy’s drafting table and notice her drawings pinned to the wall. Soon we find out they’re in the area looking for land and are in the market for a set of house plans. (We can't claim that was some brilliant marketing strategy...just a lucky accident.)
One thing we know for certain...we're thankful every day to be here, working with great people who share our passion for this part of Texas.
